A Designated Contact for Lee

A photograph of Lee S proudly standing in front of the RTL training truck with his pass certificate. My name is Lee and before joining the Road to Logistics program I was out of work for 16 months as I had been made redundant due to medical issues. I had been working in a warehouse as a FLT driver.

I was attending the job centre who were offering me all types of jobs, but I couldn’t do any of them do due to a prior leg injury. They asked me what I wanted to do and my answer was HGV it was the only thing I wanted to do but I hadn’t been able to afford the training course.

I applied specifically to Road to Logistics as I was very impressed by the learning curve. They offered everything from the initial classroom training including Health and Safety and Finance Management through to the theory and the practical training. The personal touch offered where I had a designated contact from the initial interview until the program finished and beyond also really appealed to me.

I found the learning journey with Road to Logistics absolutely amazing! The staff helped me out so much. I encountered a lot of personal problems during the course and they never stopped helping me or put me on the “backburner“ and not only got me through the course but they helped me get through my personal issues as well.

I am currently an HGV driver at Abbey Logistics driving all over the country transporting food goods as far as London, Yorkshire and to docks all around the country. I am absolutely loving it – once you are on the road you are your own boss and I love the autonomy.

What does this mean to me and my family?? Everything!!

It is the job I have always wanted. The financial side of things is a lot better for me and my family as I am now earning a very good salary. I am looking forward to serious career in HGV and possibly look to gain additional qualifications such as transporting fuel (ADR). I will say it again – the financial stability this course and job have brought me has been amazing.

Thank you to everyone at Road to Logistics you have been absolutely amazing from start of the course to the end. Thank you to Jen, the director, for managing such a great organisation and giving me this opportunity, Sue in the office for all her organising and always being a phone call away and Dave for being a great driver trainer. They got me through this course and never put pressure on me even when things were tough. I will be forever grateful. It means so much to me.
