Lewis’ Thoughts

Lewis was working as a Cat C driver for Atlantic Recycling when a friend made him aware of the Cardiff and Vale College funding for people wanting to train to get their LGV license or upskill from a Category C to Category C+E license.

Lewis had wanted to upskill to the C+E for some time, but financially it was not a viable option for him. So when he became aware that he could access this upskill as a fully funded program, he jumped at the chance. He registered his interest on the CAVC website, and over the next few weeks went through a straightforward screening process to ensure his eligibility.

Cardiff and Vale College BuildingLewis passed his C+E at the start of June, after a period of training. He describes the process of achieving his upskill as easy.

“I received excellent service from everyone I came into contact with along the process. From Cardiff and Vale to Road to Logistics and the training provider, everyone was knowledgeable, professional and very helpful. I received first class communication from Road to Logistics who were very responsive and answered any queries and solved any issues quickly.”

Lewis has remained with Atlantic Recycling, and thanks to his upskill, he now is earning around £10k more per annum as a Cat C+E driver, with a better work life balance thanks to working fewer weekends. He sees LGV driving as a long-term career which is both fulfilling and rewarding but gives him the balance he needs to allow for family time.

“I would highly recommend the Cardiff and Vale Program. It can feel quite daunting to learn to drive a huge lorry, but the support I received from Road to Logistics and the training provider, along with the funding through the college, meant that my journey was straightforward and pain-free!”
